Total Convenience Stores Diamond Shamrock is now operating 61 convenience stores leased to Total by Ruffin on a 20-year basis. These stores, stretching over a three-state area, sell gasoline and groceries. Two of the units, on large lots with both diesel and gasoline, serve the needs of truckers. Phil Ruffin started convenience store operations on these lots in 1959 without the assistance of public funds or outside investors. Ruffin maintains a significant presence in Kansas oil industry, with total ownership of 100 oil wells.
